GSAN Positions

Here’s the brief explanations of the positions that GSAN Offers (Summarized from the 2023-2024 constitution)

Positions reporting to the President

    • Maintaining transparency of the organization.

    • Overseeing the updating of the Onboarding Guide for Incoming Students.

    • Ensuring at the end of the year that the GSAN google drive contains all materials to support the following year at GSAN.

    • With the President, organizing the records the activities and events that worked (and those that did not) and future steps for GSAN.

  • Conducting the GSAN clothing drive at least once a year for the Fall and Winter. This requires, through working with the GSAN President, Chief of Staff, and Communications Team:

    • Conducting oversight for the production, purchasing, storage, and delivery of goods/materials for members of the IPN in cooperation with the GSAN President and institute representatives

    • relaying the Association’s business to their constituents in a timely fashion.

    • encouraging and soliciting the participation of their constituents in the Association’s events and activities, and particularly General Assemblies, votes, and elections.

    • relaying the concerns of their constituents with regards to their experiences with their Research Institute, the Department, and the University.

    • keeping an open line of communication with the President by slack/email

    • Follow Robert’s rule of order during meetings.

    • Attend monthly PGSS council meetings.

    • Read monthly reports submitted by the PGSS operational council.

    • Vote on matters put up to vote by the larger graduate student body as a whole.

Positions reporting to VP Finance and Operations

    • Cultivate respect and support within the GSAN community including online workspaces and GSAN events through organizing workshops and maintaining appropriate resources

Positions reporting to VP Academic

    • Aid the VP Academic in organizing and hosting GSAN’s academic events including competitions, seminars and workshops

    • Plan and execute GSAN’s language classes, including but not limited to French classes at varying degrees of difficulty

  • Plan and coordinate GSAN’s programming/coding/ technical workshops for the students

Positions reporting to VP Social

    • Help the VP create a fun, welcoming and accessible atmosphere for all IPN students by organizing social events throughout the year

    • Social officer responsibilities will include:

      • Assessing interest in social events by keeping in touch with the institute representatives/ IPN community at large

      • Assist VP Social in planning and organizing major social events

      • Host and oversee GSAN social events

      • Work with institute representatives to plan events and facilitate outreach

      • Arranging outdoor/ physical activities throughout the academic year

Positions reporting to VP Communications and Outreach

    • Manage upkeep and regular updates of the website- ensure everything is operating and accessible to everyone

    • Handle generating advertisements for events

    • Write weekly GSAN newsletters

    • Complete student highlights

    • Take photos of events and (potentially) help with content creation

Positions reporting to VP Wellness

    • Create events and programs that supports mental health and psychological wellbeing amongst the students of the IPN.

    • Expectations include:

      • Managing the Peer Support program, including organizing at least one active listening training/ semester

        • Matching Peer supporters with those seeking help

        • Act as liaison to other McGill wellness resources

        • Organizing mental health awareness and wellness-related events throughout the academic year
